Corporate events and holiday parties

Song requests for corporate events

Play what the room wants, not one person’s playlist.

Employees request and vote for songs from their phones with a QR code during dinner, with nothing to download. Whoever runs the music decides what plays.

Why does the dance floor empty at a company party?

At a wedding, people come ready to dance. At a holiday party, not necessarily: coworkers who see each other every day but barely know each other end up in the same room, and the music has to break the ice instead of making it worse. It usually fails for the same three reasons.

  • People who barely know each other

Teams that never cross paths all year, sitting in the same room. Nobody wants to be the first one dancing in front of their manager.

  • Three generations, one dance floor

The 22-year-old intern and the 60-year-old VP have to share the same floor. A playlist built for one of them leaves the other sitting down.

  • One person’s playlist

It is usually put together by whoever organizes the party, in a rush and to their own taste. It represents one person out of a hundred and fifty.

How does it work at a holiday party?

It all happens during dinner, when people are seated with their phone on the table. Three steps:

  1. 01

A QR code on the dinner tables

Printed next to the menu or shown on a screen. Everyone scans it with their phone camera: no app, no sign-up and no email address.

  2. 02

They request and vote during dinner

Each person requests their songs and votes for their coworkers’ picks. The list ranks itself by what most people want, not by who insists the most.

  3. 03

    Whoever runs the music decides

The DJ, or the person in charge of the music, gets the ranked list and approves or rejects each song from their phone. Songs that should not play are blocked in advance.

Why request at dinner and not on the dance floor?

Because when the dancing starts, the phones are already put away.

Collect requests in the middle of the dance floor and half the room has a phone in hand exactly when they should be dancing. Collect them at dinner and almost everyone takes part, seated and with time to think, and table talk turns into “they have to play this one”.

There is an effect you notice at work events: someone who requested a song feels part of the party and gets up to dance when it plays, even if they barely talk to half the table. It is the easiest icebreaker there is, with no forced team-building games. More on the song request app.

Who usually sets it up?

The DJ or the AV company in most cases. They play the music and approve the requests, so it makes sense for them to bring it. If that is you, this page is for you.

The event agency or the organizing team, when they want to offer something different with no extra logistics: it is a printed QR code and a web page, with no equipment to set up.

And if you organize the party in-house, without a DJ, it works too: one person approves the songs from their phone.

What do you need on the day?

Three things. A visible QR code on the tables, with a line that says what it is for. Mobile signal or Wi-Fi in the dinner room; if it is patchy, print the Wi-Fi password next to the QR code. And someone to announce it once when dinner starts. Without an announcement, four people join in; with one, almost the whole room does.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need to hire a DJ?

You need someone who decides what plays. It can be a professional DJ, the AV company running the event or someone from the organizing team. That person approves or rejects requests from their phone.

Do employees have to install an app?

No. They scan the QR code with their camera and a web page opens in their phone browser. Nothing to download, no account and no personal data.

Can we block songs that should not play at a company party?

Yes. Blocked songs are loaded before the event and guests never even see them to request. Useful for keeping explicit or divisive songs out of a work event.

Can we use it for just one holiday party?

Yes. Book a Single event at the bottom of this page: $59, or $89 with your company logo (€49 or €79 in Europe), tax included and with an invoice. Pay, get your QR code right away and use it any time in the next 6 months. If you are a DJ or an AV company with events all year, the annual plans work out cheaper.

Can it show our company logo?

Yes. The page guests see can carry a logo and brand colors, chosen by whoever sets up the QR code.

How many people does it work for?

There is no limit on guests. What changes with size is how many QR codes to place and where: at large events, tables plus a screen or the bar usually work best.
